Dorothy Iannone

Dorothy Iannone (*1933 in Boston, †2022 in Berlin) was a painter, graphic designer, and object and video artist. In 1976 she received a DAAD scholarship and moved to Berlin. Iannone’s works deal with an open approach to love and sexuality; in later works, she also addresses her own love life and sexual experiences. Due to their allegedly pornographic content, her works have been repeatedly censored. Since 1985, she has been intensively involved with Buddhism and increasingly turned to spiritual forms of unification in her works. Her work On the Continuing Journey (2008/2022) represents the artist’s engagement with constant processes of transformation as part of the journey of life. Dorothy Iannone's work has been shown in numerous museums and institutions including at Kunsthalle Emden (2023); Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk / Denmark (2022); Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art, Middelburg / Netherlands (2020); Kölnischer Kunstverein (2020), Cologne; High Line, New York (2018); Berlinische Galerie (2014), Berlin; Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich (2014); New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2009); Neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (1997).
