Andreas Slominski

In his conceptual practice, Andreas Slominski reflects on social, historical, and economic contexts and explores societal conditions and conventions. He first gained international recognition in the 1980s with his traps – particularly animal traps. His interest lies in both the clarity and ambiguity of the concept: everything that is the case (der Fall) is a trap (Falle).

His new work Die Summe (the sum) consists of the entire stock of editions and unique works currently available in the n.b.k. Editions program. The total sales price of these works simultaneously defines the value of Slominski’s piece. Because the Editions program expands annually and individual works may sell out, Die Summe remains dynamic and subject to change.

Andreas Slominski (*1959 in Meppen, lives and works in Werder an der Havel) is widely regarded as an influential artist of his generation. His numerous awards include the Hannah Höch Prize (2013), Lichtwark Prize (2013), Aachen Art Prize (2004), Sprengel Prize (1995), and Karl Ströher Prize (1991). His solo exhibitions include Museum Folkwang, Essen (2024); Kunstmuseum St. Gallen (2022); Deichtorhallen Hamburg (2016); Kunsthalle Bremen (2014); Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2013); and MOCA, Los Angeles (2013). He has been professor of sculpture at Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg since 2004, after holding a professorship in painting at Staatliche Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe (1997–2004).
