Filipa César
The works of artist and filmmaker Filipa César (*1975 in Porto / Portugal, lives in Berlin) focus on the permeable boundaries between the moving image and its reception, as well as the fictional dimensions of documentary film and the economy, politics, and poetics inherent to film practice. In her work, César focuses in particular on postcolonial structures that have shaped Portugal’s recent history. Thus, her films and installations address the question of the degree to which memories can be conveyed on film and perceived by society. César’s work blurs the lines between fiction, documentary, and experimental film, allowing for political dimensions behind the moving image to come to the foreground.
