Kaja Silverman / Harun Farocki. Von Godard sprechen. Schriften. Band 2

Part of the edition Harun Farocki. Schriften. (edited by Marius Babias, Antje Ehmann, Tom Holert, Doreen Mende, Volker Pantenburg)

Speaking about Godard presents conversations between Harun Farocki and Kaja Silverman about eight selected films by Godard – Vivre sa vie (1962); Le Mépris (1963); Alphaville, une étrange aventure de Lemmy Caution (1965); Week-end (1967); Le Gai savoir (1968); Numéro deux (1975); Passion (1981) and Nouvelle vague (1990). Farocki and Silverman held their debates in the mid-1990s in English, between Berlin and Berkeley, and published their book in 1998 both in the original and in German, translated by Roger M. Buergel. Eight chapters, corresponding to the number of films discussed, provide an insight into Farocki’s and Silverman’s view of Godard’s work, individual scenes are retold meticulously and analyzed structurally, visual and linguistic research converge. The German re-publication includes the preface of the 1998 German edition by Hanns Zischler as well as a postscript by the publisher Doreen Mende.
