Rotraut Pape

The work of Rotraut Pape (*1956 in Berlin, †2019 in Berlin) operates in the field of tension between film and video art, performance and installation. In the early 1980s, she began using video and experimental film to examine sociological, technological, and media-reflexive themes, exploring pop-cultural phenomena such as speech patterns in television series, films, and club culture. In 1981, Pape formed the performance group M. Raskin Stichting Ens together with her classmates Andreas Coerper, Elisabeth Fiege, Oliver Hirschbiegel, and Kai Schirmer at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.
