John Bock

In his work, John Bock (*1965 in Gribbohm / Germany, lives in Berlin) brings together live actions, drawings, sculptures, installations, film sets, and film projections to form a Gesamtkunstwerk. Characterized by combinations of materials, Bock’s spatial configurations can become the setting for his performances, which the artist calls “presentations” or “lectures.” His work is based on a dry humor expressed linguistically through neologisms, repetitions, onomatopoeia, and surprising combinations of words. Bock’s primary goal is to dissolve the boundaries of art – both the separation of genres and the fixed meaning of artworks – as well as to challenge the relationship between viewer and artist.
