Halil Altındere


Halil Altındere (*1971 in Mardin / Turkey, lives in Istanbul) is an artist, curator, and publisher. Belonging to a generation of Turkish artists who played a key role in shaping Turkey’s cultural upheaval in the 1990s, his artistic practice focuses on the country’s sociopolitical transformation, the promotion of a process of emancipation, and resistance to repressive and nationalistic developments in state and society. Altındere’s videos, sculptures, paintings, photographs, and performances are notable for directly and openly criticizing the military apparatus, government policies, and patriarchal and nationalistic structures within Turkey.
