Gerry Schum

Filmmaker and cinematographer Gerry Schum (*1938 in Köln, †1973 in Düsseldorf / Germany) relied on television for communication about art. He was interested in an uncommented presentation of videos that he produced with other artists for his Fernsehgalerie (“Television Gallery”). With the title of his first exhibition Land Art (1969), Schum effectively shaped the genre for German art history – yet, for Schum, the video works have a character of their own, and only exist in the form of the broadcast.
