Douglas Davis (*1933 in Washington, D.C., †2014 in New York) played an active role in contemporary art as an artist, theorist, critic, teacher, and writer from the 1960s onward. A pioneer of video art in the 1970s, his live satellite performances were groundbreaking exercises in the use of interactive technology as a medium for art and communication. From the outset, Davis integrated television into his work, leading audiences to develop a critical relationship with mass media.
