Dieter Appelt
Dieter Appelt (*1935 in Niemegk / Germany, lives in Berlin) is an artist working with photography, video, actions, and objects. After a career as an opera singer, he has devoted himself exclusively to fine art since 1979. His black and white photographs and films explore life and death, as well as nature and mysticism. In contrast to a positivist view of the world, Appelt’s works establish a distance to the objects they depict, thus opening up transcendent, in-between spaces. His outdoor actions, while meditative and spiritual, include the materiality of the real environments in which they take place.
