Gerry Schum

Filmmaker and cinematographer Gerry Schum relies on television for communication about art. He is interested in an uncommented presentation of videos that he produced with other artists for his Fernsehgalerie (television gallery). With the title of his first television exhibition Land Art (1969), he shapes the genre term for German art history, yet for Schum the video works have a work character of their own and only exist in their being broadcast. At the second television exhibition Identifications (1970), pure gesture came to the foreground.
