Friederike Pezold

The possibility of being able to control the filming of one’s own body during production using a closed-circuit technique changed Pezold’s viewpoint at the start of the 1970s, and brought her to use video from then on as a medium for her work. By way of the close-up and by accentuating parts of her white body, like her nipples or genitals in geometrically reduced form in black, in the series The New Embodied Sign Language she generates a symbolic coding and abstraction of femininity.
