Girardet’s work is shaped by work with found footage that reveals themes lying behind film constructs such as gender identities or violence by way of the repetition or rhythmification. This is true of Release: in this video, four scenes from the film classic King Kong (1933) are defamiliarized by way of fragmentation and manipulation of speed. The exaggerated gestures of Fay Wray in chains combines feelings like fear, lust, and ecstasy in a single striking image.
