Gustav Metzger
Gustav Metzger (*1926 in Nuremberg, †2017 in London) in his artistic work aims for a profound social change. In 1959, he developed the so-called “Auto Destructive Art”. Neuer Berliner Kunstverein offers Metzger’s first series created for sale, Facing Extinction. Here, political and ecological protest against oblivion is visualized and creates a new presence for the analysis of biological and cultural extinction. The original image is from the book Dyrenes Verden - Pattedyr II by Ingvald Lieberkind (1961) and shows historical stamps with lion motifs from the colonized countries of Africa.
