Tim Etchells

The artistic work of Tim Etchells (*1962 in Sheffield, UK, living and working in London, Sheffield and New York) encompasses, alongside his work as an author and theater director, the fields of performance and installation, where he acts as a solo artist as well as in a collective. His interest lies in the combination of various media as well as the visualization and redefinition of predetermined structures in culture and language. Since 1984, he is a founding member and the artistic director of the group Forced Entertainment, which operates at the interface of theater and performance. Also in theoretical writings, as a curator, as well as in research and teaching (including Lancaster University, Tate Research, LADA London, University of Sheffield), Tim Etchells is dealing with contemporary art. In the series Fight Posters with eight designs, Etchells lets the contradictions of the media collide by means of aggressive quotes.

His works have been shown in numerous international exhibitions, among others Jeu de Paume, Paris (2013); Wiener Secession (2013); Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt/Main (2011); Gasworks London, MACBA Barcelona (2009/10); Netherland-Media-Arts-Institute Amsterdam (2009); Manifesta 7 (2008); Kunst-Werke Berlin (2005); Tate Modern, London (2003).

Neuer Berliner Kunstverein exclusively offers eight designs from the series Fight Posters. Etchells lets the contradictions of the media collide by means of aggressive quotes.
