Introduction: Michael Baute (film theorist and author, Berlin)
Las aventuras de Juan Quin Quín (1967, 110 min) tells the story of the adventures of Juan Quin Quín in pre-revolutionary Cuba using the form of a picaresque novel and a mixture of different genres. Coming from poor backgrounds, Quin Quín alternately gets taken on as an altar boy, circus artist, bullfighter, coffee planter and revolutionary. While the film for one thing demystifies the revolution, at the same time it always keeps an eye on the social realities.
