DAS MINSK Kunsthaus with Paola Malavassi – Guided tour and talk
Friday, Jan 13, 2023, 5 pm
In September 2022, DAS MINSK opened in Potsdam as a new museum for contemporary art. The name goes back to the former restaurant "Minsk," which was built in the 1970s in the modernist style of the GDR and which enjoyed great popularity. In 2019, long after the restaurant had closed its doors, the Hasso Plattner Foundation acquired and renovated the building. Here at DAS MINSK Hasso Plattner, the art collector and patron who also founded the Barberini Museum, displays his collection of art from the former GDR alongside contemporary artistic positions. Until mid-January 2023, the exhibitions Der Nachbar, der will fliegen and Potsdamer Schrebergärten are on display, which show paintings of the Leipzig artist Wolfgang Mattheuer as well as photographs and a film by the Canadian Stan Douglas. Both exhibitions deal with the theme of landscape and of the allotment garden, the latter serving as a mirror of socio-political realities.
In an exclusive talk, Paola Malavassi, Director of the Kunsthaus, speaks with members of n.b.k. about DAS MINSK, its history and future projects, followed by a guided tour through the shows of Wolfgang Mattheuer and Stan Douglas.
