Dirk von Lowtzow (b. 1971 in Offenburg, living in Berlin), since the foundation of the band in 1993, has been singer, songwriter and guitarist of the discourse rock group Tocotronic. On May 1, 2015, the band’s self-titled
11th album was released, followed by a number of tours. Since 1999, Dirk von Lowtzow, together with Thies Mynther, forms the experimental duo Phantom Ghost, with whom he released 5 albums and, together with the artist Cosima von Bonin, brought to the stage the performative retrospective Retrospectres - Phantoms and Ghosts (2014). Dirk von Lowtzow is on the editorial board of the art magazine Texte zur Kunst. He has written numerous essays on artists and, together with the filmmaker and cinematographer Jutta Pohlmann, took part in exhibitions. He has appeared as an actor in several short and art films and works as a narrator for radio features, radio plays and audio books, a. o. for Christian Kracht’s novel Faserland. In 2015, Dirk Lowtzow, in collaboration with René Pollesch, developed the opera Von einem der auszog, weil er sich die Miete nicht mehr leisten konnte (The story of someone, who went forth because he could not afford the rent anymore) at Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxembourg-Platz in Berlin.
