As a pioneer of video art, Maria Vedder (*1948 in Nordhorn / Germany, lives in Berlin) has intensively explored the technical possibilities of the moving image since the 1970s. In her early performance work, Vedder ironically stages situations that question social conventions and norms regarding gender. In later bodies of work, she focuses on manifestations of the visible in order to highlight cultural and social phenomena through film.
