The works of Hannah Heer (*Vienna, lives in Vienna and New York) are often

interdisciplinary and transnational. In addition to film and video, her practice also includes photography and installations. Starting in the mid-1980s, Hannah Heer and

Werner Schmiedel (*Neuss/Rhein / Germany, lives in Vienna and New York)

collaborated to produce documentary film essays that explore traces of the past and

social and political contexts. Schmiedel studied photography with Erich vom Endt at

the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen; he then attended Ursula Wevers’s

video class at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf until 1980.
