Like many of Sandra Becker s works, this short video interestingly captures a small detail in the otherwise mundane actions of daily life. She films an escalator at a slant, as people pass quickly by the frame. Due to the altered angle of the shot, the people seem to be leaning far back, as if held by strings or some other manipulation. She freezes the shots occasionally, to capture a certain portrait of a person or group of people, to really see their expressions and features in the stream of passing figures. She magnifies this contorted patterning of people, and is able to portray an otherwise ordinary thing in an exciting new light. (lg)
