Biography
Discoteca Flaming Star was founded it 1998 by Cristina Gómez Barrio and Wolfgang Mayer. Throughout its existence, the group has incorporated various other individuals into its performance-based artistic praxis. In its stagings as well as its objects Discoteca Flaming Star are actualizing an idea of Camp, which they reintroduce into different contexts. The have worked at u.a. the Whitney Independent Study Program (2006/07) and have received grants from the DAAD and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. In the last years, their works have been shown at u.a. CAAC Seville (2011), Villa Romana (Florence) (2011), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin) (2010), Temporäre Kunsthalle (Berlin) (2010), Performa (New York) (2009), MACBA (Barcelona) (2009) and Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2010). Discoteca Flaming Star hold a professorship at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart.
Video Of The Month
In 2010, the series Video Of The Month, curated by Kathrin Becker, presented international artists from outside the collection. In 2011, selected works of the
n.b.k. collection can be seen online here. The emphasis is placed on young video art from Berlin that reflects the international art scene, and thematically underscores the emphases of the collection. Parallel to the presentation on the website, Video Of The Month will also be screened in the space of Video-Forum.
