William Wegman

Man Ray, Man RaySelected Works (Dog Duet, Used Car Salesman, Dog Biscuit in Glass Jar)

In addition to his drawing and painting, Wegman’s work consists primarily of photographs and videos with the two Weimaraners Man Ray and Fay Ray. Commented by Russel Connor, the absurd documentary Man Ray, Man Ray mixes stations in the life of the Dada artist Man Ray, such as the New York Armory Show (1913) and his time in Paris, with those from the life of the dog with the same name, for example, entering dog obedience school. Wegman adapts here Dadaists’ techniques; but the dog in the overall oeuvre also presents reflections on the conditio humana.
