Kubota first came into contact with the medium of video by way of her friendship with New York Fluxus artists. Her works often reveal autobiographical characters. The emotional reference to individuals and artist colleagues close to her lend many of her works the character of homage. The influence of Marcel Duchamp and John Cage on her work is unmistakable, when in Duchampiana she speaks of her encounters with both artists. Later works deal with Nam June Paik with whom she also developed shared works.
