Wilson’s Video 50 consists of 100 “spots” with in part mundane, in part surrealistic and highly symbolic scenes, by and large without soundtrack. The work is often seen as autobiographically inspired, containing of visual motifs that also shape Wilson’s celebrated stage works: flat backdrops and striking signs. Using similar principles, Deafman Glance explores the world of a deaf-mute African-American boy, and the scenes in Stations are also based on childhood experience.
