Maria Serebriakova

The Painter

The work of Serebriakova’s is influenced by Moscow conceptualism and frequently based on photographs of found objects that she recomposes or to which she adds new meanings by way of shifts of context. The accidental gaze from the studio becomes an emblematic image within the image of allegorical dimensions, when in The Painter she observes a housepainter whitening on a window frame, who, in so doing, was creating a window to the world, like the artist herself.
