Maya – Die Welt der Erscheinungen II

The tracking shot is a technique used frequently in Engel’s film works. In Maya, they are shots taken in Mexico: they were edited with the intention of being viewed on a large screen. Four to five rows of images are arranged on top of another so that the selective character of all these images (monuments from Maya civilization, everyday street scenes, landscape and sky) is both emphasized and played over. At the same time, an intense sound track suggests a continuous presence despite all the movement.
