FarbenA Sound Like Alice, or Like Being Picked Up and Dropped Off the Empire State

Ingrid Oppenheim was an important video collector during the 1970s and 1980s. In her own videos, she primarily used the possibilities of postproduction. Scenes from films she either found or made herself are combined to form an associative meta-narrative that is primarily defined by the soundtrack. The piano music in Farben or the lack of sound in A Sound like Alice, or Like Being Picked Up and Dropped Off the Empire State point to the image’s technological contingency.
