Emshwiller was one of the first video artists to use computer technology. Digital manipulation and computer animation lend his work an aesthetic that reflects the visual technical progress of the 1980s. With the completely computer generated work Sunstone, he created one of the earliest simulations of three-dimensionality. The face of the sun undergoes numerous metamorphoses: in its mystical appearance it shows Emshwiller’s transcendental approach to image generation.
