On the Aesthetics and Politics of Ecology
Discussion with Ursula Biemann (artist, Zurich), T. J. Demos (lecturer Modern and Contemporary Art, University College London) and Irit Rogoff (prof. Visual Cultures, Goldsmiths University of London), moderated by Inke Arns (director, Hartware MedienKunstVerein, Dortmund)
Based on her extensive research, Ursula Biemann shows in her video installations the extensive interwovenness of economy ecology and migration. Ensuing from Biemann’s artistic works, the relationship between aesthetics, ecology and geopolitics is discussed, which produced a new understanding of art and artistic research. To what extent can the interaction of art and science establish experimental fields of action, which meet the challenges of the 21st Century (e.g. climate change, migration)?
