What does art need its autonomy for?

Conversation between Hartmut Böhme (professor of Cultural Studies, HU Berlin) and Boris Buden (philosopher, Berlin)

What function does art have in light of retro utopia, historical falsification, and cultural society? Is art still free and autonomous or already part of the universal transformation of the Bourgeousie in service of global capital?

Together with Yvonne Ehrenspeck he coauthored "Walter Benjamin: Aura und Reflexion. Schriften zur Kunsttheorie und Ästhetik" (2006). In Spring 2011 he will release his book "Wissensformen. Bildkunst und Wissensgeschichte in der Frühen Neuzeit."
