Panel discussion with Juliane Rebentisch (Professor of Philosophy and Aesthetics, Offenbach University of Art and Design), André Rottmann (art historian, college research group „BildEvidenz“, Freie Universität Berlin), moderated by Manuela Ammer (curator, museum moderner kunst stiftung ludwig vienna)

Juliane Rebentisch studied Philosophy and German at Freie Universität Berlin. She obtained her doctorate in 2002 at Universität Potsdam and her habilitation degree in 2010 at Goethe Universität in Frankfurt/Main. Since 2011, she is a Professor of Philosophy and Aesthetics at the Offenbach University of Art and Design. Rebentisch has authored and edited a large number of publications and beyond that regularly writes for Texte zur Kunst. Most recent publications include: Theorien der Gegenwartskunst zur Einführung (Theories of Contemporary Art as an Introduction) (2013); Die Kunst der Freiheit. Zur Dialektik demokratischer Existenz (The Art of Freedom. On the Dialectics of Democratic Existence) (2012); Willkür. Freiheit und Gesetz II (Arbitrariness. Freedom and Law II) (ed. with Dirk Setton, 2011); Kreation und Depression. Freiheit im gegenwärtigen Kapitalismus (Creation and Depression. Freedom in Contemporary Capitalism) (ed. with Christoph Menke, 2010).

André Rottmann studied Art History, Literature, Comparative Literature and French at Humboldt Universität Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts and Université Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux III. In 2011, he was a guest researcher at the Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities in Los Angeles, since 2012, he is a research fellow of the college research group “BildEvidenz” at Freie Universität Berlin. From 2006 to 2010, Rottmann was chief editor of
Texte zur Kunst, since 2011, he is a member of its editorial board.

Manuela Ammer studied Journalism, Communication Science and Art History at the University of Vienna. She worked at the exhibition offices of documenta 12. Until March 2014, she was a research fellow at the collaborative research centre 626 on “Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits” at Freie Universität Berlin. Since 2014, she is a curator at museum moderner kunst stiftung ludwig vienna. Manuela Ammer has written numerous catalog essays on modern and contemporary art. Furthermore, she has worked as a writer for art magazines, including
Kunstforum International, frieze, Parkett and Texte zur Kunst.
