Roundtable IV – When Odd-feathered Birds Flock Together
- On Collaborations and Other Symbiotic Relations -

Roundtable with Jimmy Ogonga (artist and curator, Malindi, Kenya) and Emma Wolukau-Wanambwa (artist and researcher, Berlin)

Working in a collaborative context – especially in artistic, curatorial and political practices – always requires questioning oneself about the needs, circumstances and products of collaborations. The inherent power gradients of collaborations, i.e. between the collaborators themselves, or dependent on the institutional model – e.g. top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top collaborations – shape the outcome of collaborations.
This panel aims to explore the notion of collaboration in order to reflect on its ambiguous power implications, through the work of artists, curators, and researchers addressing the problematics and possibilities of inter-institutional collaborations and their role in ‘collective’/ ‘collaborative’ amnesia in society, as well as ‘collaborative’ systematic destruction of knowledge, memory and archives.
