Artist talk with Halil Altındere

With his current exhibition
Space Refugee at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Halil Altındere continues his engagement with two relevant topics that characterize his work in particular: migration and identity. In the light of European defense against immigrants and at some ironic distance Altındere proposes to use the cosmic space as a haven for refugees, while simultaneously delving into the life story of the former Syrian cosmonaut Muhammed Ahmed Faris, who in 1987 with the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz TM-3 went to the space station Mir. Faris consequently became a hero of Syria, but lives as a refugee in Istanbul today.

Halil Altındere and Kathrin Becker, head of n.b.k. Video-Forum and curator of the exhibition, will talk about the formation of the
Space Refugee project and Altınderes artistic agenda.
