On Film and Ideology

Films and discussion with Phil Collins (artist, Glasgow/Berlin), Pablo Lafuente (co-editor Afterall, London; associate curator Office for Contemporary Art Norway, Oslo) and Hito Steyerl (artist, Berlin)

Film screening and discussion on the relationship between film and ideology based on Sergei Tretyakov’s essay The Biography of the Object (1929) by the example of aircrafts, an interview with the author Jean Genet for the BBC4 program ARENA in 1985, as well as the limits of cultural Maoism.

Phil Collins is an artist, living in Berlin. In 2006, he was nominated for the Turner Prize.

Pablo Lafuente is a critic and curator, living in London. Lafuente is co-editor of
Afterall, London, and curator at the Office for Contemporary Art (OCA), Norway. Lafuente regularly writes for Afterall, Art Monthly, Parkett and The Wire, among others.

Hito Steyerl, Ph.D. in Philosophy, is an artist and professor at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
